Dublin City Beta Project was one of the shortlisted ideas from the Dublin City Council Staff Ideas Scheme in 2012. The thinking behind the project is that Dublin needs to be able to innovate – and to innovate you need to be able to experiment and to then learn from those experiments.
It asks Dublin (both Council and Citizens) to discuss the City’s issues and opportunities, and suggest potential solutions. Those solutions are then temporarily trialed ‘on the street’ to help people visualize the suggestion and also generates real-world measurements for the Council.
The public response has been extremely positive with over 2,500 followers on social media, regularly contributing suggestions and solutions on such wide-ranging topics as cycling, onstreet dumping, street art, vacant sites and digital mapping. The project has been included in Dublin’s new Digital Masterplan and is also generating interest from other cities in Ireland and abroad.
