Council innovators share their experience

On Monday 23rd September the City Manager launched the 2013 Staff Ideas Scheme at a “Know How” Session in the Wood Quay Venue, where previous participants shared tips on how to make ideas happen.  Claire Farren talked about running pop-up massages for staff during lunch hour.  Gerry Moore explained how installing motion sensor lighting made big electricity savings in Maple House Hostel.  Shane Waring talked about Dublin City Beta Projects as a way to trial urban solutions from street art to street signs. Sam Bishop, the coordinator of Street Feast and the Upstart arts collective explained how he helped turn Granby Park from an idea into action.

Our speakers offered words of wisdom to future innovators – be flexible, look at what supports are available and what can be achieved within a given timeframe, test and re-test your idea and collaborate with others throughout the process.  Above all don’t be afraid to try something new.  We’re hoping this will help to inspire new staff innovators to enter the current scheme.  Watch this space for further ideas.

The staff ideas exhibit is currently on display on Walkway 2, Second Floor Civic Offices.
