December is traditionally a time to review the past and plan for the future. So what memories stands out for us in The Studio in 2013?
……… It was great to see the impressive final presentation and stunning publication of the Our Dublin Project in from the 10 challenging and creative students from the Institute without Boundaries. The legacy of the collaboration during The Dublin Project with the IwB and DIT School of Design lives on in Dublin City Council.
……….We were inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of 8 very mixed teams in Startup City supported by subject experts collaborating to propose concrete ways the city could help small businesses thrive.
…….. The often hidden talents of Dublin City Council staff continues to astound. Gully manager Roy O’Donnell and the City Council received joint patents for his invention of a gully eye cap holder. Roy subsequently received a Lord Mayor’s award for using his creativity for the good of the City. The latest crop of staff ideas revealed at a workshop in December and being piloted in the new year already look promising.
……….We enjoyed insightful on street conversations with members of the public in the Sandymount, Ballymun, Finglas and in the City Centre on ageing, play and the proposed elected mayor for Dublin.
…….The availability of real time public transport data through Dublinked was taken up enthusiastically by coders and others.
…… Great partners and collaborators make all the difference. Thanks to those who worked on the above and on a range of workshops, conferences, exhibitions and talks. You know who you are!
……..Looking forward to the piloting in January 2014 of our online application system for film makers designed jointly with the industry and the City Council Events section within the council. A first for us!!
What next? We are working on the early stages of a number of interesting projects which you will hear about in the new year.
